Oklahoma redshirt sophomore linebacker Tay Evans' football career is over. Sooners head coach Bob Stoops made the announcement at his weekly press conference Monday.

Evans is being forced to quit playing football due to concussions. He's been offered a spot on the coaching staff as a student coach. However, it's unclear if he will accept the position.

As for his scholarship at the school, Evans is being placed on a medical scholarship. That means his financial aid with the school won't change, but his athletic scholarship will no longer count against the 85 man limit.

Evans started the first three games of the 2016 season tallying 8 tackles. Evans saw action in ten games last season. Emmanuel Beal is expected to fill his role in the starting lineup.
