MERIDEN, Conn. – A Connecticut mother is being called a hero for sacrificing herself to protect her 7-year-old daughter.

According to WFSB, 40-year-old Dania Cedeno-Delrosario and her 7-year-old daughter, Denisse, had just gotten out of their car and were planning to cross the street when they were hit.

“My mom is under a Jeep, a white Jeep and someone crashed her,” Denisse told WFSB.

Family members say Cedeno-Delrosario only saw the car seconds before the impact, but was still able to push Denisse out of the way.

The impact threw her body under a parked car, and Denisse ran to get help.

Sadly, Cedeno-Delrosario died from her injuries at the hospital.

Now, authorities are searching for the driver of the car who hit the woman. Investigators say the driver didn’t stop, and fled the scene immediately after the crash.
