DEL CITY, Okla. - Authorities are working to solve a murder mystery in Del City.

Police said they are searching for suspects after a man was shot to death and left in the street.

Early Tuesday morning, neighbors near S.E. 22nd St. and McCracken reported hearing three gunshots followed by silence.

A short time later, the body of 30-year-old Charles Richard Wertz was found with gunshot wounds.

Del City police said the Wertz lived in northwest Oklahoma City, and they are not sure why he was in Del City.

“We do believe the victim was brought here by an unknown persons. We have no eyewitnesses. We do have a report that shots were fired in that area about the time this person was shot. And, the one person reported that a person was laying in the street, but we are still looking for any witnesses that might have seen anything or heard anything,” said Jody Suit with the Del City Police Department.

Right now, investigators said they are still looking for leads.

“Anytime you don’t have eyewitnesses or you don’t have anyone from the scene, it makes it a lot more difficult. So, we canvas the neighborhood and, once we release the name, we hope that someone will come forward with information about why he was in Del City and give us information that will help lead us to whoever committed this crime,” Suit said.

Police said Wertz does have a criminal record, but they do not know if that is related to the shooting.

Right now, police don’t have any suspects.
