OKLAHOMA CITY  — As oil prices remain low, a well-known energy company announced plans to lay off more employees.

SandRidge Energy spokesman David Kimmel told the Journal Record that due to low commodity prices and reduced plans for drilling in the next year, the company will lay off more employees soon.

Kimmel did not say how many employees would be affected.

“Taking this action is difficult, but is critical to ensure we are strategic and intentional to align our staffing with our levels of activity,” Kimmel said. “During this extended period of low commodity prices, these reductions are necessary for the long-term success of the company.”

It is unclear when the layoffs will occur.

This isn’t the first time this year SandRidge has announced layoffs.

In February, the company laid off hundreds of employees.
