DEL CITY, Okla. – Several arrests have been made in connection to a deadly shooting in Del City.

Earlier this month, neighbors near S.E. 22nd St. and McCracken reported hearing three gunshots followed by silence.

A short time later, investigators found the body of 30-year-old Charles Richard Wertz.

According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators say Wertz had agreed to sell methamphetamine to Tyler Pate around the time he was shot and killed.

After arresting Pate, he told investigators that he and two other people went to meet Wertz to buy drugs.

When Wertz asked if they had the money, Pate said that a man, who was later identified as Ricky Lynn Appleton, pulled out a gun and shot Wertz.

The affidavit alleges that investigators looked through Wertz’s social media accounts and came across a message from Christina Smith.

“The messages showed Christina Smith was telling Wertz that the Irish Mob was not happy with him because he had not been putting in enough work for the Irish Mob,” the affidavit reads.

Officials arrested Pate, Appleton and Smith on a charge of first-degree murder.
