EDMOND, Okla.  – While many families are still recovering from eating too much turkey, businesses across the state are gearing up for the holiday shopping season.

Businesses in downtown Edmond say they are preparing for Small Business Saturday by offering customers a more personalized experience.

“Local retailers and restaurants provide a far better shopping experience with personalized customer service and products you would not be able to find elsewhere. Not only that, but when you shop small, the bulk of the money you spend and most of your taxes stay local – helping schools, police and fire departments, paving streets and keeping you safe,” said Stephanie Carel, president of Downtown Edmond Business Association.

Last year, 95 million customers shopped small on Small Business Saturday and spent about $16.2 billion at independent retailers and restaurants.
