Havana, Cuba — Cuba’s former leader, Fidel Castro, has died at age 90 his brother announced.
Castro’s younger brother Raul confirmed his passing Friday evening although the cause of the former president’s death is unknown at this time.
Castro was the leader of the 1950’s Cuban Revolution and his younger brother succeeded his presidency in 2008.
For more than four decades Castro was anti-American personified. Throughout the Cold War the dictator caused constant problems for United State’s presidents.
Castro built the communist state just 90 miles from US shores, he formed a close alliance with the Soviet Union that endured the remainder of the Cold War.
With Castro’s death Cuba now faces an uncertain future.
