TACOMA, Wash. – Rhonda DiCostanzo was not going to let anything stop her from spending Thanksgiving with her family.
On Thursday morning, she completed a triathlon but broke two of her fingers when she tripped after crossing the finish line.
DiCostanzo, who works as a midwife, rushed to her hospital, where she met Jessica Morales.
“And I heard this lady come in, and she was obviously in very active labor and was obviously going to deliver very quickly. You could just hear it,” she told KING.
Morales couldn’t wait, and the delivery staff were still on their way to the hospital, so DiCostanzo stepped in.
“Afterward, I showed her my hospital band and said, ‘You know, I’m a patient here, too,’ and she said, ‘What?!” Discostanzo said.
Once her hand was set, she went home to and still managed to serve Thanksgiving dinner to 16 guests.
