GREENVILLE, N.C. – A young cancer patient is hoping strangers can send him some words of encouragement this holiday season.

Hayden Drake, 5, has been battling leukemia and the effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment since earlier this year.

Six months ago, his lymph nodes started to swell and his mom took him to the emergency room, WITN reports.

“They drew his blood and they all rushed in and said he has cancer,” she remembers.

With his compromised immune system, Hayden’s mom said the boy mainly stays home with his dad, three-week old baby brother and mom.

When he started receiving get well cards, Hayden perked up.

“Yesterday he got five cards in the mail and he does this little happy dance the whole time we were reading the cards,” Hayden’s mom told WITN.

So this year, the young boy has one simple Christmas wish: to get a whole bunch of cards with his name on them.

If you want to help put a smile on this young boy’s face, you can send him a card at: 1637 Lumbuck Road, Greenville, NC 27858.
