MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - A dad who's been serving overseas surprised his little girl Wednesday at a school in Midwest City.

After two years apart, 8-year-old Zoey Spigarelli is back in her father’s arms.

Her parents kept his arrival secret for weeks.

Little Zoey had no idea her dad was heading to her school Wednesday or that he actually got into town the night before.

“When I got home, the kids were already asleep. We took all my bags and snuck them in the room,” said Gary Spigarelli.

Being so close and not ruining the surprise was harder than he thought it would be.

“It was very hard walking past my kid’s bedroom and not going in there and giving them a hug and a kiss and let them know daddy's home,” he said.

For the past two years, he’s been deployed to Japan where he worked as a submarine radio chief.

Though he loves his job, the time away has been tough.

It's why Wednesday means so much.

“My family is complete. He's our rock. He's the strong one. He's the one that's always there,” said Danielle Spigarelli.

Zoey's school wasn't the only stop for Spigarelli Wednesday.

He surprised his other two children, 12-year-old Kyla and 13-year-old Kamden.

With Zoey’s school being the last stop, all the family was able to be there to take part.

Gary is now stationed at Tinker Air force base.

The family said there are no more goodbyes planned for anytime soon.
