Oklahoma's football team had costly defensive lapses last season in losses to Houston and Ohio State.

The Sooners are hoping for an improved effort this season, and defensive coordinator Mike Stoops has liked what he's seen from his unit so far in preseason practice.

OU has added a defensive coach in Ruffin McNeill, who is coaching the defensive line for the Sooners.

McNeill once coached with OU head coach Lincoln Riley at Texas Tech, and then hired Riley to be his offensive coordinator when McNeill became head coach at East Carolina.
