OKLAHOMA CITY – Black Friday and Cyber Monday are just around the corner, and a lot of people are gearing up to cross some gifts off of their wish lists.

While Christmas shopping, it is easy to get wrapped up in the spirit of the holidays. However, officials with the Oklahoma City Police Department are warning shoppers to take extra care to prevent becoming the victim of a crime.

Officers warn that you should never leave anything in your car while you are shopping. Thieves often target parking lots on Black Friday because they know busy shoppers will leave packages in their cars.

Also, if you are having purchases shipped to your house, sign up for delivery alerts from the shipper. If you aren’t home during a delivery, ask a neighbor to take the packages to their house until you get home.

Even if it isn’t the holiday season, police say that you should lock your car and house at all times.
