TULSA, Okla. – A Tulsa mother has been arrested and is facing child neglect and child abuse charges after her boyfriend allegedly beat her toddler son to death.

Officials say 24-year-old Zachary Collins watched three of his girlfriend’s, 21-year-old Dasia Dickinson, children Friday night while she was at work.

When Dickinson returned home from work Saturday morning, she found Collins and her 22-month-old son on the couch.

“She immediately observed that (the child) was not doing well,” an affidavit said. “She observed bruising on his forehead and lips.”

Dickinson then called a grandmother to check the boy, “and subsequently emergency responders were called,” the Tulsa World reports.

The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died Monday around 9 a.m.

Collins was arrested Saturday and initially told police that one of the other children had pushed the toddler to the floor. However, he later admitted to investigators that he slammed the boy’s head against the wall, punched him in the stomach and slammed the child into the couch.

Police say Collins stated “he was frustrated with (the child) for not allowing him to sleep.”

According to the Tulsa World, Collins told police he “drank a six-pack of beer and half pint of tequila” the night of the incident.

Collins has been charged with child abuse murder.

Dickinson was arrested Thursday.

Dasia Dickinson

She faces one count of permitting child abuse by injury and two counts of child neglect.
