UPDATE: Authorities says suspect Ahmad Jacene is now in custody.
SHAWNEE, Okla. - A chase suspect, wanted out of Seminole County on a number of warrants and alleged to have threatened family and law enforcement and led police on a lengthy manhunt, is in custody, according to police.
According to Seminole Police Chief David Hanson, Ahmad Elijah Jacene was arrested at a Seminole motel Wednesday evening, after being convinced to turn himself in. He has since been released from AllianceHealth Seminole after being checked out and will be booked into the Seminole County jail.
Jacene, 23, is wanted out of Seminole County on multiple warrants, police said, and was the subject of a manhunt Tuesday night.
"Today his bond was raised to $1 million out of Seminole County, due to violent threats that he's made," Hanson said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon, "the fact that we’re very confident he's carrying a firearm."
According to police, Jacene was spotted shortly before 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the city of Shawnee. An officer began pursuing Jacene, who later crashed an SUV into the North Canadian River near East MacArthur and Musson Road and ran from the vehicle.
Shawnee Police, Seminole Police, Pottawatomie County Sheriff and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, set up a 2 square mile perimeter around the area and used helicopters and search teams to find Jacene.
As day turned to night, Jacene eluded police, even with a drone armed with infrared cameras, searching for a human heat signature. Nearly five hours after Jacene was first spotted by a Shawnee police officer came a clue: a homeowner in a neighborhood a mile-and-a-half south of the search area spotted a shirtless, shoeless and shivering man.
Law enforcement picked up and converged on the neighborhood near East Highland and South Rock Creek Road, using the drone, as well as teams and K-9s on the ground.
At 10:30 p.m. Hanson, while watching a monitor of the drone's camera searching surrounding area, received a phone call telling him Jacene was taken into custody at the motel. It's unclear how Jacene was able to evade the dragnet and who helped him get to the motel nearly 15 miles away.
