Oklahoma City police: Man arrested after three-year-old boy dies

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City police say the death of a toddler is being investigated as “suspicious.”

Authorities were called to the area near SW 21st and Brookline Monday at around 7 p.m. for a call about an unresponsive three-year-old.

Police tell News 4 the toddler, now identified as Elias Mendoza, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials say he had trauma to his body consistent with signs of child abuse.

Authorities say due to information that developed throughout the investigation, Mendoza’s father, Jesus Marquez, 28, was arrested and will be booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of child abuse.

The medical examiner will determine Mendoza’s exact cause of death.
