Worry free Labor-day weekend trip?

With the approaching Labor Day weekend, many families are preparing for a short weekend trip away as summer comes to a close. What better way to enjoy some time in the sun prior to oncoming Fall/Winter seasons. It should be a fun family experience filled with anticipation. However, there are those who cringe at the idea of being away for an extended weekend when they have a loved one who typically needs their care and assistance on a regular basis. Many in the sandwich generation feel pulled between caring for and time with their children and providing care for their elderly parents. Questions arise like, How will I know if Dad gets his medications right if I don’t stop by to lay them out for him? What if Mom falls again while we’re out of town and there is no-one there to even realize she’s on the floor. How long would she lay there? What if grandma couldn’t get to the bathroom? These are real concerns for many families.

At the same time, some Seniors who depend on family members for daily assistance can have similar anxieties from a different perspective. While desiring that their grown children enjoy the holiday, they can worry about potentially being alone or not having the normal family caregiver available if they need something.

Both of these scenarios can produce worry, anxiety and frustration. However, there are some options available to reduce anxieties and put everyone’s mind more at rest. Home Instead Senior Care is one of several certified caregiving agencies which can provide temporary or ongoing CareGivers to assist Seniors. Schedules can be arranged for a CareGiver to provide assistance for a couple of hours, focused morning or evening timeframes and/or up to 24 hr care if desired. Having a CareGiver available to prepare meals, reminders for needed medication, transportation to an appointment or church service etc…all can help to provide a worry-free Labor-Day for Seniors and families alike. If you are experiencing some of these anxieties, you can call one of the following Home Instead Senior Care offices to learn more about how a CareGiver might assist you during the coming Labor-Day weekend.
