In the first quarter of 2015, 140 applicants received grants and second quarter recipients will be announced in the near future. Grants were awarded in 48 states and range from a few hours to two different grants of an entire year’s worth of care services.
Applications can be submitted through HelpForAlzheimersFamilies.com. (http://www.helpforalzheimersfamilies.com/dementia-support-network/alzheimers-care-grant-program/)
The Rogen’s own experience dealing with a family member with Alzheimer’s spurred them to do something to assist families dealing with the disease. Often family members are so consumed with taking care of their loved one with dementia that they forget to care for themselves. It can be emotionally, physically and financially draining on a family and it takes its toll in many ways. The respite hours provided through the Hilarity for Charity / Home Instead Senior Care program provide some of that needed down-time and energy renewal for families doing all they can for their loved ones.
A recipient’s wife in Barstow, Florida, sent a letter to the Rogens thanking them for their generosity and commitment to Alzheimer’s disease care. Part of her letter reads, “The caregivers at Home Instead are trained professionals. You have made a wise choice to coordinate with Home Instead.”
Numbers from the Alzheimer’s Association show there were 48,000 caregivers in 2014 helping almost 20,000 people diagnosed with the illness. If you would like to apply for the program, learn more information on Alzheimer’s or gain access to additional book and app resources dealing with the disease, we encourage you to visit www.helpforalzheimersfamilies.com.
