“They were not at the trial. They have never read the trial transcripts. They have never read the transcripts of the evidentiary hearings or the appeals, but yet they believe the Facebook and the Twitter lawyers and proponents who are putting out all these lies and information,” Bill Howell, Paul Howell’s brother, said.
“Our family is encouraged by both Governor Stitt’s decision to reject the commutation recommendation of the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board and by Attorney General O’Connor’s decision to move forward and request an execution date for Julius Jones…which was set by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals for November 18, 2021,” said the family statement, in part.
The Howell family maintains that Jones is the person responsible for Paul Howell’s death. “In order to believe any of Julius Jones’ stance of innocence, you have to basically ignore every fact and every single amount of physical evidence and every testimony and every witness presented by the state,” said Paul Howell’s brother Brian after this month’s clemency hearing.
