NEWKIRK, Okla. – A 12-year-old boy was pronounced dead following an ATV crash on Thursday evening.

Emergency crews were called to a private property just south of Newkirk on Thursday around 7 p.m. after learning about an ATV accident.

Investigators say a 12-year-old boy was riding a 2002 Arctic Cat 400-I ATV  in a pasture when he hit a wooden post that was on the ground.

Authorities say the ATV went into a broad slide and rolled several times before coming to rest on the driver’s side.

The boy, who has not been identified because of his age, was thrown from the ATV.

He was pronounced dead by emergency crews at the scene of the accident.
