OKLAHOMA CITY – Ruthi Mason said she can’t figure out why anyone would want to hurt her daughter and grandson.

“There’s absolutely nothing that she would have done aside just existing that somebody would want to kill her,” Ruthi said.

Julie Mason, 41, and her son, Keagon Bruce, 8, were pulled from their burning home on N.W. 80th near Western in the early morning hours of December 17.

Julie was already dead, and Bruce was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators said someone attacked them before setting fire to the house.

According to the medical examiner’s report, they both suffered blunt force trauma.

“All Julie cared about was taking care of Keagon, you know, making sure that he was happy and healthy,” Ruthi said.

Ruthi said her daughter and grandson lived alone and led quiet lives.

“She just kept to herself. She went to work. He was in the Boy Scouts,” Ruthi said. “I just want answers. I need to get justice for my daughter and my grandson.”

That’s why Ruthi is offering a $20,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction.

She’s convinced there’s someone out there who knows something, and she said the culprit probably bears some clues because her daughter would have protected her son.

“She would not have gone down without inflicting some kind of scratch, bruise, you know. So, whoever did this did not come away unscathed,” Ruthi said.

Ruthi said her daughter had no enemies, had never said she felt unsafe and was not involved in anything dangerous.

The “not knowing” is driving her crazy.

“It’s a hole in your chest, and it is a physical pain that it goes all the way through out the back. She was my baby,” Ruthi said.

And, Ruthi said the reward is her contribution to finding her baby’s killer.

She also said they plan to start a GoFundMe page to possibly increase the $20,000 reward.
