MIAMI – Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin missed Thursday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with what is being described as an “illness,” but the story does deeper than that.

According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, via the Palm Beach Post’s Andrew Abramson, the second-year tackle out of Stanford left the team after an attempted prank by teammates went away:

Alex Marvez of Fox Sports added that teammates bullied Martin for the last year and a half, and because of that “abusive environment,” he has left the team to spend time with his family.

Martin missed the Dolphins’ Week 9 game against the Bengals and is expected to miss multiple games.

After an up-and-down rookie season spent mostly at right tackle, Martin started the first six games of 2013 at left tackle.

However, after the Dolphins traded Bryant Mckinnie, he was moved back to right side.

With Mckinnie on the left side, Tyson Clabo was reinserted into the starting lineup at right tackle in place of Martin on Thursday night.

The Dolphins snapped their four-game losing streak on Thursday night, but it will be tough to maintain the momentum without moving forward.
