MOORE, Okla. – Five Moore High School seniors were suspended and barred from walking at graduation after taking a senior prank too far.
Clayton Seleznoff, Jordan Jones, Keante Hawthorn, Kraig Ratcliff and Jesse Humphrey were punished for their part in a senior prank that took place last Thursday night into Friday morning, the Norman Transcript reports.
As part of their senior prank, the five boys and a few other senior classmates planned to make it difficult to travel around the school.
They placed saran wrap in front of the stairs, turned tables and chairs upside down and even put Vaseline on some door knobs.
The students say they even had permission from the Senior Principal Hether Little, who let them inside of the school.
But, what they did after they were supposed to leave got them suspended.
The five boys stayed behind and hid inside the school.
One of the seniors told the Norman Transcript that after everyone was gone, he and the other four seniors went through the hallways spraying baby oil and shaving cream on the floors.
The next day, custodians were called in to clean up the mess.
“We did intend to make a mess, but that is the prank,” Humphrey said. “It would just be something that was annoying to clean up. It’s part of a prank. We’re having fun.”
On Tuesday, the principal told the five senior boys that they were suspended for the last week of school and forbidden from attending graduation.
“I understand what we did was wrong, and we apologized,” Clayton Seleznoff, one of the five Moore seniors, told the Norman Transcript. “I feel like all those four years we put in didn’t mean anything if we’re not allowed to do something everyone else gets to do. I honestly felt like I let my mom down.”
The boys’ parents are very upset and have asked the principal to reconsider.
“They didn’t maliciously go out and try to hurt someone,” Nicole Seleznof, Clayton’s mother, said. “None of these kids have been in trouble until now — they’re all good students, participate in extracurricular activities, they’re all athletes. These kids have already taken responsibility, and (Moore High School officials) allowed them to get into the building. The school isn’t taking responsibility.”
According to the Norman Transcript, the boys heard rumors that a few people were hurt as a result of their prank; however, when they asked the principal if anyone was injured, they were not given an answer.
Many of the students’ fellow classmates have taken to social media using the hashtag #LetThemWalk, saying the boys’ punishment is too harsh.
Why take away one of someone's proudest moments over a slippery hall? That's petty. #LetThemWalk

#LetThemWalk suspend them, make them pay the fine, don't let them go to senior breakfast. Not letting them walk? That is ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, they most definitely deserve a huge punishment. Just not their HS graduation #LetThemWalk
