PARK RIDGE, Ill. - A 7-year-old Illinois girl died after suddenly falling ill during a cheerleading camp.

Katherine "Kate" Babich was attending Summer Cheer Camp when she “became ill unexpectedly” Monday morning.

According to WGN, a camp staff member reported Kate wasn't feeling well and was having difficulty breathing.

The young girl was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

Kate had just finished 1st grade, WGN reports.

The remaining sessions of the cheer camp were canceled.

The medical examiner has not yet released a cause of death in the case.

Police say they will continue to interview camp staff and others about the girl's sudden death.
