MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KHOU) – A former OU star and Minnesota Vikings’ running back made his first appearance in court on Wednesday.
At the hearing, the judge was asked to apologize for a joke he allegedly made about the attorneys on the case.
Attorneys say the judge called them a “media whore.”
They have now asked District Judge Kelly Chase to recuse himself from the case.
A recusal hearing is set for Nov. 4.
Peterson was indicted last month after being accused of injuring his 4-year-old son last May.
Peterson’s attorney said the charge involves the use of a “switch” to spank Peterson’s son.
He says it is the same type of discipline Peterson experienced as a child.
In a statement, attorney Rusty Hardin said, “Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.”
A tentative trial date is set for Dec. 1.
