INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A ‘freak accident’ outside an Indiana elementary school led to the death of an adult and two children being rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to FOX 59, authorities with the school district say 25 students were on a stationary bus when the bus suddenly lurched forward outside Amy Beverland Elementary School.

Rita Reith, with the district, told FOX 59 that the bus jumped a curb, hitting two children and one adult.

The kids were taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

However, there is no information about the adult who was killed.

“A serious accident occurred at Amy Beverland Elementary around 2:45 this afternoon. We do not have all the details at this time, but the school district can confirm that there was one fatality. We are working with authorities to determine exactly what happened and to get students home safely. We will communicate more information as it becomes available from police and fire department officials,” a statement from Kathleen Rogers, with MSD Lawrence Township, said.
