Alleged Tulsa serial rapist dies before he could face charges

TULSA, Okla. – Authorities say a man accused of several sexual assaults across Tulsa has died.

According to KJRH, Desmond Campbell, 30, was in critical condition and unresponsive following a car crash June 29.

Authorities say he was involved in a car accident just 10 minutes after the last sexual assault.

He was taken to the hospital and police say his DNA matched some of the evidence from the OSBI.

Search warrants show police found the victims’ belongings in Campbell’s crashed car.

UPDATE: POLICE BELIEVE THEY HAVE FOUND ALLEGED SERIAL RAPIST IN TULSA

KJRH says Campbell was pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m. this morning.

According to Amy Elliot, a spokeswoman for the state medical examiner’s office, it is possible a preliminary cause of death could be available Wednesday.

Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris said his office was in the process of filing criminal charges when he was notified of Campbell’s death.

Harris says Campbell was to be charged with 10 sexual assault complaints, seven burglaries and six robberies.

Now that Campbell has died, the DA’s office will not file charges.
