American makes history by winning Boston Marathon

BOSTON (CNN) – For the first time in 30 years, an American has won the Boston Marathon.

The winner of the men’s division is 36-year-old Meb Keflezighi.

Keflezighi finished the 26.2 mile trek in two hours, eight minutes and 37 seconds.

He is the first American man to win the race since 1983.

Before the race, Keflezighi wrote the names of the victims of last year’s Boston Marathon bombing on his bib.

In the women’s division, 33-year-old Rita Jeptoo from Kenya was declared the winner.

Her official time was two hours, 18 minutes and 57 seconds, which a course best for the women’s division.
