OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man was shot in the head and the suspected gunman fled to a college campus to hide from police.

It happened at the West View Apartments late Sunday afternoon.

Shattered glass woke Kirk Caldwell.

"When I went and looked there was glass all over the floor then I saw the hole," Caldwell said.

That hole was where a bullet pierced through his apartment wall just inches above his sleeping son's head.

Caldwell walked outside to see what was going on.

"I saw a man was standing with the gun and he had just shot at the other man again," Caldwell said. "He tucked the gun inside his pants and he took of running."

He pursued the alleged gunman to Oklahoma City University's campus.

The suspect hid inside the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.

As police surrounded the building, the campus was placed on lockdown.

University officials sent out tweets, text and emails alerting the students to take cover and lock doors.

"It's a very scary situation; I've been here four years and this is the first time this ever happened," senior student Robin Ladd said.

Ladd and her cousin took cover in her dorm room until the campus was back open.

Officers said they recovered a gun along the path the suspect traveled.

Investigators continued to comb the scene at the West View Apartments for more evidence.

The victim, who was recently released from the hospital after being treated for a grazing gunshot wound to the head, sat in the back a of a patrol car.

In another was the alleged gunman who the university's twitter feed stated is a freshman student.

Both the victim and suspect remain in custody.

Witnesses said the victim was detained because of what police found inside one of the apartments.
