OKLAHOMA CITY – A brazen crime in a metro neighborhood left neighbors fed up.
Packages were stolen from the porches of several homes.
Little did the thieves know they were under close watch.
Neighbors were able to catch the package thieves thanks to a site called Next Door.
You register online, add your neighborhood and it serves as an online watch group.
“Apparently another UPS incident occurred. A package was delivered and was stolen off the front porch,” Linda Moberly read.
It’s the first post Moberly added to the Next Door site when she found out about the missing packages.
“It all just started coming together, all the different neighbors started coming together, posting I saw this person, I think I saw the van,” Moberly remembers.
It was a silver Honda Odessy, a neighbor caught it on camera.
You see the van pull up, a man dashes out, grabs a package, then bolts back to the van before it drives off.
“With all of us communicating and being aware, we know exactly what we’re supposed to be looking for,” Moberly said.
They got the tag information and video to police. Police caught the thieves.
“It all came together and one of those things I’ve been working toward in our neighborhood is all of us coming together as a community and getting a safer neighborhood, a closer neighborhood,” Moberly says.
The site lets you select your neighborhood and shows who is using the app.
“The green [houses] are members of Treadwell on next door. All the pink ones have not signed up, so we have more to go,” Moberly said.
For now, she’s just warning anyone else trying to commit crimes near her, because her neighbors are watching.
