WASHINGTON, D.C.—The United States Marine Band says the moving rendition of the “National Anthem” by Beyonce during the president’s inauguration was actually her “lip-synching” the song.

The public affairs chief for the band confirms that it was Beyonce’s decision to use pre-recorded music that included vocals.

The Marine Band performed live at other events but they received word at the last-minute that Beyonce would not be singing live.

The spokesman says that at the 2008 inauguration, Yo-Yo Ma also used a pre-recorded track.

Officials say all music is pre-recorded in case something like bad weather won’t allow a live performance to take place.

However, it is usually not used.

Beyonce and her publicists have not released any statement on the allegations.
