It’s a game that has become legendary for college football programs across the state, and it seems the Big 12 Championship game is coming back to the conference schedule.

The Big 12 stopped playing a championship game after Colorado and Nebraska switched conferences, leaving the Big 12  with only 10 teams.

However, a new rule that was passed by the NCAA last year allows conferences, no matter the number of teams, to host a championship game.

On Friday, officials announced that the Big 12 would be the first conference to take advantage of the new rule.

According to Sports Illustrated, Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the conference would likely break into two divisions with five teams each in 2017.

Rumors are still swirling about the possibility of expanding the conference and adding teams in the future.
