Bill Gates is helping launch a machine that has the ability to turn human feces into clean drinking water.

According to Gates’ blog, “At least 2 billion, use latrines that aren’t properly drained. Others simply defecate out in the open. The waste contaminates drinking water for millions of people, with horrific consequences: Diseases caused by poor sanitation kill some 700,000 children every year…”

So arises the birth of the “Omniprocessor.”

“Through the ingenious use of a steam engine, it produces more than enough energy to burn the next batch of waste. In other words, it powers itself, with electricity to spare,” Gates writes in his blog.

Business Insider simplified it this way: “The machine extracts water from sewage that’s piped in or delivered to the facility. The dry sewage is then incinerated to generate steam, which powers the entire machine.”

Gates testified his own confidence in the poop processor by watching a load of sewage get dumped, processed, and put into a glass… And drinking it on camera.

The video at the top shows a breakdown of the Omniprocessor, how it works, and how it could benefit millions of people.
