OKLAHOMA CITY—A bill that would allow victims of human trafficking to have their records expunged has passed the Public Safety Committee.
HB 1058, authored by OK Rep. Sally Kern, was passed by the committee in a unanimous vote.
The bill would allow those who were kidnapped and forced into human sex trafficking and have a conviction or charge of prostitution against them to have their record expunged.
Kern said, “Sadly, the children who are forced into this horrible lifestyle are much easier for law enforcement to find and charge than the perpetrators who are the real criminals.”
HB 1058 now heads to the House for approval.
