JESSAMINE COUNTY, Kentucky – A bizarre murder investigation is underway after an inmate reportedly died following an incident involving a pair of underwear.
According to the jailer, while 55-year-old Michael Jones was out on his furlough, he soaked a pair of his underwear in liquid methadone and wore them back to the jail.
According to his criminal citation, Jones tore up the underwear and shared pieces with his cell mates.
One of them, 33-year-old Corey McQueary, somehow ingested some of the soaked underwear and later complained to the jail staff that he didn’t feel well.
Doctors check him out and put him in an isolated cell.
They say McQueary never mentioned what he’d taken.
He was found unresponsive later that night and pronounced dead early Thursday at the hospital.
“Contraband is a constant problem at any facility across the state,” Jessamine County Jailer, Jon Sallee said. “You can do everything that you can do, you know strip searches and such. But something like this is almost impossible to catch.”
