(Oklahoma City, Okla.) The snow and cold has put a dangerous freeze on the state’s blood supply.
Blood donation numbers have dropped drastically the past 10 days, with the Oklahoma Blood Institute seeing 1,321 fewer donors than it takes to keep the blood supply strong for patients who need it .
17 blood drives have been cancelled today as this next winter blast closes schools and churches across the state.
However, local donor centers across the metro-OKC area are open now and will remain open all across the state today.
OBI is urging healthy Oklahomans over the age of 16 to make a donation before and after the weather hits and travel is safe.
Donors with negative blood types are especially needed.
