OKLAHOMA CITY — The board of education established a 10-member committee last year to research and recommend a plan for the development of English and math standards for Oklahoma students. Today, the State Board of Education approved a process to develop subject matter standards for those subjects.

The plan includes writing teams for language arts and mathematics, with smaller groups divided by subject matter and grade bands (pre-K-first grade, second- to fourth-grade, etc.).

Public feedback will be allowed at regional town-hall meetings, and online.

The committee involved in setting the academic standards will meet on March 25.
