ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. – Authorities made a gruesome discovery after finding a car submerged in the Caney River on Friday.

Around 6:30 a.m., a witness called troopers after spotting the car near the river on Friday morning.

At first, troopers thought the car could have been stolen and involved in a crime.

When divers went into the water, they initially thought the car was empty.

According to KJRH, when the car was pulled from the water, a body was discovered in the trunk.

Authorities later confirmed the body found in the truck of the car is that of Rafael Hernandez Torres.

Troopers believe the car was intentionally driven into the river and foul play is suspected.

At this point, it is being investigated as a homicide.

Decals on the car suggest it belongs to a taxi service, El Corre Caminos.
