MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — Authorities are investigating after a body was found near a Midwest City neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Officers say that around 1:35 p.m., an elderly couple was walking on a trail near Southeast 29th Street and Hiwassee Road when they saw a body floating in the water.  “When our officers and firefighters arrived they did a search and rescue,” Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.  “They retrieved the body from the pond to the shore, pronouncing the individual dead at the scene.”

Officials say the body found is a white male in his 20’s.  They don’t think he is from the neighborhood.  “We don`t think he lived there.  We did find a pair of shoes along the bank of the pond,” Chief Clabes said.  “Didn’t find anything else.  The individual had a cell phone on him, but no wallet.”

Investigators don’t know how long the body was in the pond, but they don’t think there was anything suspicious surrounding his death.  “It`s unfortunate, but I want to stress again, it doesn’t appear to be any foul play,” Chief Clabes said.
