STEPHENS COUNTY, Okla. – Stephens County sheriff’s office reported a grass fire around 4:00 pm.

The sheriff’s department arrived before the fire truck and discovered a Chevrolet pickup truck that was destroyed in the fire.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered a body of a man behind the truck.

The victim has been identified as Dale Gene Whaley.

The deputies say it appeared that Whaley was trying to get away from the fire, but can not tell this early in the investigation.

Authorities have ruled out possible foul play.

Whaley was 69-years-old and lived in the Bray area for several years.

Police are still trying to determine if he drove up to the scene to try to put out the fire.
