COMANCHE, Okla.-- A 10-year-old was put on life support after a tragic accidental shooting.
Officials say the girl's brother was cleaning his gun at the family's home in Comanche, when the weapon went off, shooting the little girl in the neck.
David Sorrell's business is just across the street from the Ledford's home, and he says he's known the family for years. When the news of little McKaya Ledford's accident hit, Sorrell says it left the entire town of Comanche speechless.
"I talked to a guy yesterday who said I don't want to talk about it," Sorrell said.
But even if they don't want to say it, Sorrell says everyone in town is feeling the same way.
"Kind of feels like family," Sorrell said.
The town is still in shock over the accident.
"You think 'well this don't happen here in small town USA', but it did," Sorrell said.
As the family waits by little McKaya's side, the town of Comanche stands together, holding on to hope.
"We'll do anything we can to support them and help them get through it, but it's going to be a long hard road," Sorrell said.
