MOORE, Okla. – “It was a hot, sunny day. I was getting ready for school. I was in the third grade at Briarwood Elementary…”

Those are the words of Kaden F. from May 20 last year.

Kaden joined us in the studio to talk about his winning essay about surviving the Moore tornado.

He wrote:

“All the kids were screaming and crying but my mom was praying as the tornado hit that God would send his angels to cover us and protect us. We waited until the last child was picked up and that’s when my mom started crying. She waited until then because when you are the adult you have to be strong. I survived an F5 tornado that leveled my school, hit my house and blew my family’s car away and even though I cried, I knew I had been very brave.”
