OKLAHOMA CITY - Are you noticing a flood of requests for donations in your inbox and mailbox these days?

There's a good reason that non-profit organizations ramp up their efforts to raise money before the end of the year.

It's not just the Christmas spirit at work but making that donation brings a tax break for most of us.

The average Oklahoman gives 5.6 percent of their discretionary income, making us the 11th most charitable state.

Amy Welch, with the Society of CPA's, stopped by our studios with some great advice for smart giving strategies.

The first strategy for giving is to make sure the organization is using the money wisely.

Welch suggests researching IRS exempt organizations before making a donation.

Also, remember to track all your donations so you can get the appropriate tax deduction.
