Authorities arrested and charged Rush Springs City Clerk John David Morrow with felony embezzlement.

Grady County District Attorney investigators say between January 2007 and February 2014 Morrow stole more than $12,000 from the city.

Morrow has been the town clerk since 2005.

The incident came to light after a 2011 city audit conducted by Rheba Henderson of Rahhal, Henderson and Johnson accounting firm. The audit uncovered Morrow did not withold premiums owed to the city for insurance coverage for his family, paid himself for an extra elected position, took advances in pay and paid himself extra paychecks.

Morrow told investigators he was in full control of the payroll, tax deduction, insurance premium payments and all financial related information for all city employees including himself. Morrow said he took the money for living expenses including house payments and raising his children.

Morrow was charged with DUI in 2013. His next court appearance is April 9.
