You probably know that Ramen Noodles, beer, and pizza comprise the average college student’s diet – but a new study reveals that these young adults might struggle to make healthy eating choices more frequently than we previously thought.
It’s not just the occasional late night pizza or the junk food that is so concerning.
This study shows that students may be doing some real long-term damage to their health over just a few years in school.
This new study was done by northwestern medicine and northeastern Illinois University.
They found that the majority of college students are engaging in such unhealthy behavior that they are increasing their risk of cancer later on in life.
Here’s the concerning combo:
95% of students are not eating the recommended daily amount of fruit and vegetables. And more than 60% are not getting enough physical activity.
Other unhealthy behaviors that add to their risk of cancer are smoking, binge drinking, and obesity.
The researchers say these findings are important because identifying the unhealthy behaviors early on and then changing them is the key to reducing the risk of cancer.
