OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma City man was arrested for allegedly abusing or neglecting his “common law” wife.

On Thursday, officers were called to a home after someone believed an elderly woman was being abused.

Del City officers were investigating a car accident when they confronted 70-year-old Truman Dodson.

According to the arrest affidavit, they immediately smelled human waste coming from inside the house.

Oklahoma City officers say they found the 61-year-old victim laying on a bed in room that “had an overwhelming odor of stale urine and feces.”

In the report, police say they saw insects crawling on the floor and many clothes and sheets that were covered in dry and fresh excrement.

Authorities say the victim was very thin, had difficulty speaking, was covered in bruises and scabs and had severe redness to her left eye.

When asked about the victim, Dodson said, “I take care of her best I can.”

Dodson was arrested on a charge of abuse or neglect by a caretaker.
