MADISON, Tenn. (WSMV) – After the city council said a sex club could not be built near Goodpasture Christian School, critics thought the issue was over.

However, developers may have found a loophole.

For months, the vacant building next to Goodpasture Christian School has been the subject of controversy.

Members of the community found out the new owners wanted to open it as a swinger’s club.

Opponents were so outraged that council members passed a zoning amendment to stop the club in its tracks.

However, developers have filed a new set of plans, asking to renovate the building and make it a church.

“That, to me, in many ways, just seems to be irreverent,” Ricky Perry, president of Goodpasture Christian School, told WSMV. “And it just seems like there’s nothing you wouldn’t stoop to to try to accomplish what you’re trying to do.”

The school sits next door to the property.

Perry says the revised plans are the same as before, but the names are a little different.

What was once labeled “the dungeon” has now been converted to a “choir room.”

The former “game room” is now called the “fellowship hall.”

“It’s obvious to me that all they’re trying to do is find another way to legally, or through some loophole, accomplish what they want to do,” said Perry.

The owners were given permission to renovate it as a church, but they must prove that worship is going on behind closed doors.
