BOISE, Idaho – Two construction workers in Idaho are thanking their lucky stars after a freak accident on a lift.

According to KBOI, two construction workers had to jump to safety after a welding blanket caught fire on a scissor lift basket in downtown Boise.

Other workers told KBOI that they lost control of lift when it short circuited, essentially trapping them.

Fortunately, coworkers on the ground were able to get control of the lift and move it closer to the building.

“They were on the lift and it was a long ways for them to be able to make it over to the side of the building to jump off,” Boise Fire safety spokesman Jason Lewis said. “Workers on the ground level were able to swing the boom over so it was closer to jump from the lift to the sixth floor.”

Both of the workers had to be treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Now, investigators are working to determine how the fire started.
