BLANTYRE, Scotland – It’s a common fact; dads are a bit protective of their daughters.
John Tierney is no different.
When Tierney spotted his 4-year-old daughter Grace waving at boys, she told him that she wanted a boyfriend.
At that point, Tierney started recording because he knew a “heated discussion” was to follow.
“Why can I not get a boyfriend?” Grace asks
“Because I’m not wanting you to get a boyfriend,” Tierney said.
“Why not!” Grace yells.
“Cuz you’re not getting one,” he responds.
“Dad, I will get a boyfriend if I want to get a boyfriend,” the 4-year-old says.
“Daddy will break his legs,” Tierney says with a smile.
“No!” Grace says.
“Yes, I will,” he said.
“Dad, I,” she begins.
“And guess what will happen after that,” Tierney interrupts.
“What?” she asks, sounding annoyed.
“See, your boyfriend’s daddy? Daddy will take him hostage and keep him in a cupboard,” he said.
“Dad, listen. If I want a boyfriend, I want a boyfriend, I’m getting a boyfriend,” she said.
“You’ll not get a boyfriend, you’re gonna be a nun,” he said.
“DAD!” Grace yelled.
“You’re gonna be a nun, you’re gonna work for Jesus,” he said.
“No, I’m gonna get a boyfriend,” she said.
“They’re who you’re gonna work for,” Tierney says, pulling out a cross necklace. “They’re who you’re gonna work for. End of story.”
The video of the argument has been viewed across the globe and has received rousing approval from other fathers.
We like minded fathers gotta stick together and promote the cause. #DADD
