Bradley Manning, who now calls herself Chelsea Manning, will get her first gender treatment while in military custody.

The decision comes after the Bureau of Prisons rejected the Army’s request to transfer the national security leaker from a military prison to a civilian facility.

The initial gender treatments could include allowing Manning to wear some female undergarments and also possibly provide some hormone treatments.

Defense officials contend the Army does not have the medical expertise needed to give Manning the best treatment.

Manning has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, which is the sense of being a woman in a man’s body.
