BETHANY, Okla. – Talk about being in the right place, at the right time. Thanks to a school assignment, a Deer Creek teen catches an emergency crash landing at Wiley Post Airport on camera.
She was actually at the airport with her step dad, who is a flight instructor, when they got a heads up a plane was having trouble and was about to land.
She grabbed her camera and started rolling.
“All the sudden it started rocking,” Grace Manglicmot, the teen who captured the landing, said. “When it landed, all the sudden the gear just fell below the wing and there were just sparks everywhere.”
Grace had been taking pictures for school when word came of a plane having an issue with its landing gear.
She said, “I was in the middle of a photography assignment that involved car wheels and I didn’t expect to get that.”
What she captured was incredible. The plane landing as sparks were flying.
Grace said, “We were kind of panicking at that moment.”
Monday Grace was back at Deer Creek High School. NewsChannel 4 caught up with her during her photography class.
John Lang, her instructor, said, “I always tell them to keep their cameras with them at all times, this is the perfect example.”
Her classmates gathered around the computer, most unaware of what Grace had captured.
One classmate said, “That guy’s probably never going to want to fly again!”
Mr. Lang said, “It’s probably an adrenaline rush to watch something like that.”
An impressive video by this sophomore, who’s just glad everyone on the plane was okay.
Grace said, “No one else was there to see it and being able to share it with people it has more of an impact.”
Grace is actually a pilot in training. She just made her first solo flight on her 16th birthday two weeks ago.
